Our School

From the Desk of Mrs. Sasso

Dear Students and Parents,

On behalf of the staff at Franklin Elementary, I would like to welcome you to the 2017-2018 academic year! I hope you and your family have enjoyed the summer break.

Our teachers are preparing for the full implementation of the California State Standards. Much of our professional development will focus on continuing our learning journey and plan lessons addressing the newly adopted standards. Understanding and planning for the diverse needs of the students will remain at the core of our work. We will keep on refining our professional practice within the LAUSD Teaching and Learning Framework.

A preliminary review of the Smarter Balanced Assessment scores show that our students have maintained an excellent performance in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Results for individual students will be mailed in the upcoming weeks. I am looking forward to the official and final release of the test scores as another measure to confirm the academic strengths of the students and to pin point need areas.

Over the years we have strengthened a close partnership between the staff and the parents.  We recognize our students thrive when they receive support from school and home.  We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:

1) Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience

2) Completes all homework assignments given by teachers

3) Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills

4) Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life

5) Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject

6) Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college

We are looking forward to working together to ensure another rewarding educational experience for all the students. The wonderful Franklin staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school family. Our vision for success begins on August 15, 2017.

We thank you for your support.
